Cake in the form of an owl: decorate with cream and mastic

Something I thought that you can decorate the cake by September 1 in a special way, for example, make it in the form of an owl. Firstly, an owl is the personification of wisdom and knowledge, and secondly, owls are now extremely popular, as they say, in a trend. In this article, I have put together a master class for you on how to make a cake in the form of an owl from mastic and cream.

Owl cake

Cake in the form of an owl from cream

Far from all housewives work with mastic, but cream decorations can be made by everyone who has baked a cake for the holiday at least a couple of times on their own. Yes, and in the color of the owl allows you to make a cream, without the addition of food coloring.

And so, the first cake. The scheme for laying out the cakes in the first picture, then everything is simple: grease with chocolate cream where the head and wings should be, as well as a twig, coat the tummy with ordinary butter cream, it will have a slightly yellowish tint. Still, a little mastic is used here to create the eyes, beak and legs of an owl. You can be smart and use, for example, round cookies, straws and other sweets. The belly of an owl can be decorated with sugar flowers, which are sold ready-made in the confectionery departments of any supermarket.

And here's how you can decorate a cream cake with chocolate drops from white and dark chocolate.

And here is a whole cream owl cake, next to it is a diagram of how to cut and lay out the cakes.

And here is just an example of how to make cream owl cupcakes, eyes and beak are made of candy.

From mastic, in principle, it is also not difficult to make a cake decoration. In most cases, the cake needs to be covered with a sheet of mastic of the main color, then circles should be made that will serve as plumage for our bird. Well, actually below are a few photos of the master classes.

But the cake is more complicated ...

Cupcake in the form of an owl

I also liked the idea of a cupcake or bread for children in the form of an owl. The whole point here is to correctly lay the multi-colored pieces of dough. You can tint the dough with natural dyes: carrot and beetroot juice.

Bake two or three biscuits in a slow cooker or oven. For the dough: beat the eggs with a mixer until fluffy. Pour the small cane sugar "Mistral" in parts and beat until it is completely dissolved. Making a cake with an owl is much easier than it might seem at first glance. If desired, it can be decorated with cream or mastic. In both the first and second cases, biscuit cakes with different impregnations are suitable as a basis.

Cake base

To prepare a biscuit cake, we need to break 2 chicken eggs, preferably chilled, in a deep bowl. To them add 150 gr. sugar and beat well with a mixer until foamy. In the process of whipping, it is necessary to gradually add 150 gr. flour and 10 gr. citric acid. Add vanilla to taste. Beat until smooth, so that there are no lumps. Pour the finished mixture into a round shape, previously greased with butter. Place the mold in the oven. The oven must be preheated to 180 degrees. On average, the cake is baked for about 40 minutes, but more can be.

After the cake is taken out of the oven, it must be cooled. While the cake is cooling, proceed to the preparation of the cream.

If desired, you can prepare cottage cheese or sour cream. We use milk as an impregnation.

After the cake has cooled, cut it into three parts. We impregnate all cakes and evenly smear with cream. We send the smeared cakes to the refrigerator for a couple of hours. Let's start decorating the cake with an owl. If desired, you can decorate with cream or mastic. Let's consider both options.

Cake "Owl" from cream

To decorate such a cake, you will need to prepare two types of cream:
- chocolate cream;
- creamy.
We also need chocolates with icing and round chocolate or ordinary cookies.

To prepare the first type of cream, we take 100 gr. dark chocolate and melt it in a water bath. In a separate saucepan, bring 110 ml of cream to a boil, adding two tablespoons of powdered sugar to them. Then pour hot cream into the melted chocolate, leave to cool for 3 minutes at room temperature. Add 35 gr. butter. Now the cream can be mixed and sent to the refrigerator.

The second cream is prepared from 100 ml of milk, 250 gr. butter, 200 gr. powdered sugar and one sachet of vanilla sugar. Mix all the ingredients with a mixer until smooth and send it to the refrigerator.

Now we proceed to the stage of decorating the cake with an owl. We take out the biscuit cakes smeared with cream and on them with the help of a pastry bag we begin to draw an owl. Spread the top layer with buttercream. We lay out the body of an owl with cookies. After that, using a pastry bag, we begin to draw the rest of the elements of the owl with chocolate cream, alternating it with cream. In place of the eyes you need to put half a cookie. Put chocolates on top of them.

Cake "Owl" from mastic

An owl from mastic can be made in several ways. It is best of course to use homemade mastic. To do this, take one package of marshmallows and put in a deep bowl. Add one tablespoon of butter and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Send in the microwave for a few seconds so that the marshmallows begin to melt. Now you need to add a glass of powdered sugar and half a glass of starch. As a result, a thick homogeneous mass should come out, which is wrapped with cling film and placed in the refrigerator for a day. In order for the mastic to be of different colors, you can buy food additives and pour them along with powdered sugar. Before forming the owl on the cakes, the entire cake must be covered with one layer of brown mastic, as in the photo below.
